Going Mobile: An Introduction to Responsive Design

Posted March 25th, 2013 by Dave in Web Design, Website Development

Hello, I’m David and I’m one of the Designers at WSI Yorkshire. As each year passes, Smartphones and Tablets are being used more and more as an alternative to a Desktop PC or Laptop. Anyone who has tried to browse a website on one of these devices (especially some of the smaller ones) knows that the experience is somewhat hindered by a website being designed for a much larger screen. Menus designed for a precise mouse click become a usability nightmare when trying to use a touch screen, and in the case of dropdown menus using a hover state, become unusable all together. Posted March 22nd, 2013 by Ben in Online Marketing, Social Media, Social Media Marketing

Google has announced that Youtube has reached the one billion viewers per month milestone. This is a twenty fold increase on the the 50 million viewers a month Youtube received when Google bought it for $1.76 billion in 2006, making Youtube another lucrative source of advertising revenue for Google. The one billion figure represents half of all people using the Internet.

These stats amply illustrate the importance of including Youtube in your social media marketing strategy. Setting up your own Youtube channel and embedding the videos on your website not only goes a long way to promoting yourself to potential customers but also has great SEO benefits.

Not only can you use Video be used to explain what you do and your unique selling points but client video testimonials can be a great way of building your credibility and instilling confidence into potential customers.

More than half of Businesses Increase their Digital Marketing Budgets

Posted March 15th, 2013 by Ben in Online Marketing

A survey conducted by Econsultancy and the Society of Digital Agencies has revealed that well over half of businesses are planning to increase their digital marketing budgets in the coming financial year, a majority at the expense of traditional marketing channels.

  • 55% plan to increase their digital marketing budget overall
  • 39% plan to increase their digital marketing budget at the expense of traditional channels
  • 16% plan to increase their digital marketing budget and their overall marketing budget

The fact so so few companies are increasing their overall marketing budget, but so many are increasing their digital marketing budget shows that more and more companies are waking up to how much more cost effective digital marketing is to generate sales.

Not only is digital marketing more cost effective, it is more track-able. No other form of marketing can tell you so precisely how much revenue each pound of your budget has generated. We are increasingly seeing that companies that have been slow to move into the digital era are failing behind their competitors and even failing altogether, as with HMV.

WSI has been helping companies use the Internet effectively since the 1990′s, developing and executing digital marketing solutions that produce results.
